Update from Mignonne (see tab below)
There is nothing so romantic as a beautiful melody sung in French. It evokes so many emotions – it can truly transport you to another time and place.
There was a time in the middle of the last century when you could hear lovely songs being sung in all the cafés of France. Unfortunately, for the most part today, these gems aren’t heard much anymore.
My name is Mignonne, and I’m a singer. Whenever I tell people that I specialize in what I call “French Café Music” – French songs from the 1930s – ’50s – suddenly they are fascinated. “Oh, I love that music! It just takes me away, and suddenly I’m in Paris!” It’s so true – this music is so passionate, so lovely, that it gets inside of you and carries you away.
I want to bring these songs back into the spotlight, and you can help me. I know you’ll be drawn to their charm, as I am. The style in which they were written lends itself to story telling, and even if you can’t understand the tale being told by the words, the narrative is in the music and the emotion with which the words are delivered.
If you do understand them, or if I have a chance to explain them before I sing them – these songs are amazing. They tell stories about events that happen to all of us – love found, love lost, love long ago and longed for – it’s all there, and described in such a poetic fashion – it’s impossible to sing them without expressing very deep emotions.
Yes, I love to perform these songs, but I also want to record them, so that I can reach a greater audience and share my passion for this beautiful music. And so, I have launched an album project. I have contracted a very talented team of musicians to arrange, orchestrate and perform the songs, in a style that celebrates the genre, but includes a contemporary flavor. They will be recorded with great care by an excellent engineer and producer, who is known for honoring musicians by capturing the best and most honest performance.
I invite you to partner with me as we reintroduce these songs to the world, and to a new generation of music lovers. We are raising funds for 5 songs at a time, with the goal of 15 songs for the album. Your support will help to pay for charts and orchestration, rehearsals, tracking (recording), mixing and mastering.
However you choose to be a part of this campaign, and whatever you level of support you decide to give, we welcome your generosity with much gratitude! Take a look at the list below of our gifts to you for the different levels and see what speaks to you. Come and join me, and tell all your friends that they can be a part of spreading romance around the world! Merci Beaucoup!

The album project is going very well. It’s kind of like starting the first snowball for a snowman – we start with a small little tightly packed ball, and then choose just the right hill. Then we set it rolling down the hill to eventually become a giant ball, gathering speed along the way. Going with that metaphor, I believe the “Starter Ball” has been formed! We’ve chosen the songs, created rehearsal tracks with roughed-in arrangement concepts, and my musical director is about to start on the charts. Whoo Hooo! Here we go! …The next phase will be rehearsals.
To all of my wonderful funders -
I want to extend my deepest and widest and biggest “Thank You!!!!” We made our Crowdfunding Goal! Each one of you had a hand in making it happen, and I so appreciate your support and encouragement. Merci beaucoup!
And now we begin a new phase – actually making the album happen Some of you may know that making an album is a multiphase project. First of all we need to finalize the list of songs that we will focus on for the album. Then arrangements and charts have to be written.
Next comes the wonderful part of selecting musicians and having rehearsals. After that we’ll begin tracking – actually recording the musicians as well as my vocals. Then comes over-dubbing, mixing and mastering. And of course, we’ll need to do the artwork for the album, and include all of your names!
As you can see, this is something that won’t happen overnight. However, since we now have the funding in place for five of the songs, we’ll start right in. Each of you has a specific gift that is coming to you for the level that you pledged. I want you to be confident in the knowledge that you will indeed receive that (or those) items – it may just take a bit of time. But I will keep you posted along the way about our progress. And anytime you are curious about how things are going you are more than welcome to contact me at this email address.
Again, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. Un grand merci du fond du coeur!
Many, many thanks to my wonderful funders!
